Portland Professional Photography | Join Me For A Photo-Making Month

I’ve been doing Portland professional photography for years, and while I love my design and my photography work, sometimes design keeps me from behind the lens as much as I’d like. Sometimes, it takes a new challenge to get your creative motor spinning a little faster again, so when I started seeing friends mentally preparing for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), I thought, “jeez, there should be an equivalent for photographers, too.”

Even if there’s not an official event, there’s no reason I can’t just create a challenge of my own–thing is, part of what makes NaNoWriMo fun is the knowledge that other people are also shooting for that goal. So, if you like taking photos, I’m inviting you to join me for A Photo-Making Month.

The thinking is this: NaNoWriMo participants win by producing 50,000 words during the month of November. So, if a picture is worth 1,000 words, then our goal is to shoot, edit, and post 50 new photos this month. Other than that, parameters are totally open: you don’t have to be a Portland professional photographer, and they can be any type of photos you want. There are no gear requirements–you can even use your phone camera. My main hope is that we’ll all start seeing things a little differently, as we’re looking for things to photograph.

Here’s my first shot, and you can follow my progress on Flickr. If you decide to take this on, leave a comment and share your links, too!

11/01/2012: Me being tired at the studio, worn out from a string of Halloween-y shindigs the evening before. The little windowed corner of my studio is the one consistent source of nice, natural light in my regular day. I like the windowpane shadow being cast on the curtain behind me, and this also gives a peek of my newly-updated ‘do. (now with 100% more obnoxiously bright color!) Quite a shift from the long, blonde wig I sported for Halloween.
